Truly, Mysore Doraiswamy Iyengar is a genius.
Most people can learn music..but to master it, takes genius.. No wonder, in Indian traditions..musicians are held ever so high in stature.. Nothing but classical music deserves the titles of 'Pandit' or 'Vidwan' or 'Vidhushi' bestowed on those who 're as gifted, committed and passionate enough to master it.
Back on Doraiswamy, I think you need to read what
R K Narayan has to say about him. So true... Doraiswamy seems to have the bewildering ability to produce polynomial number of swaras in one pluck of the string. And yeah.. It sounds almost as sophisticated as something like a Nadaswara or something..especially that he almost seems to mask away the 'twang' that'd be so characteristic of a stringed instrument like the veena.. In one word, simply prodigious.
